how to save a life. or three. or twelve.

Today I donated blood for the fourth time in a year, and I am pleased to say that it went well.  Quite well, actually.  A year ago today I donated for the first time and was so scared of the whole process that I nearly fainted.  But today surrounded by the hundred or so plus Greeks in the room for the Greek Week Blood Drive, I had a successful operation where not only did I save three lives, but I got free pizza and ice cream and a lifetime of knowing that in the last year alone I have saved twelve lives.

Donating blood is one of the best ways to pay it forward in our society today.  There are so many potential individuals who are eligible to contribute but don't.  And while we all have our reasons for not doing so, I have reached a change in mind.  It may be painful at first but it's the feeling of gratification when it's all over that matters.  Today with my donation I earned points for the black team, bonus points for going on our assigned day, double points for going before 1:00, AND a $5 donation from the OneBlood company to United Cerebral Palsy, the philanthropy that we are supporting this Greek Week.

Today I saved three lives.  How was your Terrific Tuesday?
