the end of an era.

This weekend Homecoming ended with a tragic loss to Virginia Tech but a whirlwind of festivities and activities that kept us all focused on why we even like Homecoming in the first place.

We rejoiced when one of our sisters was tapped into Iron Arrow, the most prestigious secret society on campus, that recognizes outstanding community members for their contributions to the school and community.

We worked hard to build the parade float, an incredible structure formed in the shape of a fish tank with a scuba diving Sebastian the Ibis and an Ele-mermaid Seuss-like animal.  Together with Zeta Tau Alpha, Kappa Sigma, and Hecht Residential College, we started from the ground up and created a float with many parts that wowed the judges.  In the end, we won Outstanding Parade Float by the Homecoming Executive Committee.

We gathered around Lake Osceola as an entire school community to watch the annual boat burning and fireworks traditions that followed perusing the many food trucks that lined the street.  Everyone came together for the spirited presentation that included glow sticks, cheers, and songs that kept everyone entertained.

We cheered on our football team, even though they fell to an ACC rival, in a rainy showdown listening to the thousands of cheers from the crowd.  It was my last home game of the season considering that they will play the weekend that I go home for Thanksgiving.  It was so cool seeing so many students and alumni there to cheer on the Canes.

We went on the field as Organization of the Week, throwing what we know and appearing on the jumbotron television in either endzone.  Getting to celebrate such an accomplishment with my sisters was an experience that I will never forget.

And finally we celebrated our chapter's 75th anniversary at the University of Miami complete with a luncheon at a local country club and several alumni who outnumbered sisters.  I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know members of my own Kappa family some generations back as well as making connections with other alumni.  It was great practice for recruitment and a wonderful experience where I learned more about Delta Kappa than I had ever known.
