17 hours into captivity. Day 1.
We have been on campus lockdown since 8:30 last night and plan to be here until Tuesday. Fantastic. Haha just kidding. With a Rachel McAdams movie marathon last night, the guys floor-hopping and stopping in, and hurricane shutters, it's actually been just what we needed. But I have the funniest story to tell.
Last night in our floor meeting we discussed the emergency procedures for hurricanes, one of which is to keep the shutters shut (obviously, right?). We went to bed pretty late after watching Mean Girls, The Notebook, The Vow, and The Last Song and shut the shutters in case the rain started early. Then we woke up as a floor to get breakfast and rations for the day in the dining hall. 7:45 was rough. Of course, Isaac had made his way into the area and was already pouring rain and blowing wind at smaller gusts. Just imagine a bunch of 18-year-old girls in rainboots and yoga pants running to the dining hall. Amusing, right? The breakfast was pretty great I have to say, and we enjoyed our meal while President Shalala stopped by to talk to all of the freshmen. The dining hall people handed us our rations for the day-fruit, granola bars, and water-before we ran back to Hecht.
Now here is where it gets funny (or at least I think). We got back from breakfast at 8:30 and decided to get some more sleep. Without even realizing it, Jenna and I woke up at 10:45!!! Super late, I know, but the hurricane shutters had kept the room nice and dark and easy to sleep! Now we are doing our homework so that tomorrow we can have a movie/relaxation/do nothing kind of day. We stocked up at Publix yesterday afternoon with plenty of food so we are set to remain in captivity until we are cleared. As for now, homework it is as we peek out and watch the storm blow over.

Sounds like you're having fun. Stay safe and know that we're watching you all from here. It looks quite wet and windy in Miami. Funny, this is how your freshman year of high school started, too. Oooh, maybe it has something to do with the class of 2016 blowing into town! We love you very much!
